End-of-school-year ceremonies should be held indoors- DepEd

The Department of Education (DepEd) advised schools to implement measures that would guarantee the safety of learners, personnel, and other stakeholders during the conduct of graduation and moving-up exercises for School Year (SY) 2023-2024 as the temperature rises in many parts of the country.

According to DepEd’s Memorandum No. 23 series of 2024 signed by DepEd Undersecretary Gina Gonong, “schools are advised to hold their EOSY rites in indoor venues with proper ventilation or covered courts to avoid exposure to the extreme heat of the sun to ensure the safety and protection of learners, teachers, and attendees.”
Schools shall avoid scheduling their EOSY rites during the time of the day when temperatures are at their highest,
DepEd said.

Along with the memorandum, DepEd also issued guidelines for the conduct of the K To 12 Basic Education Program EOSY rites for the SY 2023-2024.

Since April, face-to-face classes have been suspended by DepEd and local government units (LGUs) because of the oppressive heat currently being experienced by learners in schools across the country.

Students were taught through distance learning and Alternative Learning Modes (ADMs).
