In a recent Pulse Asia survey commissioned by Senator Sherwin Gatchalian, 4 out of 10 Filipinos are not satisfied with the Department of Education’s (DepEd) senior high school program.
The high rate of Filipinos dissatisfied with the senior high program shows the DepEd’s failure to deliver its promised results,
Gatchalian said.
In the survey, 42% of the 1,200 respondents in the country said that they were not satisfied with the high school program, while 41% said they were. The 16% could not say whether they were satisfied or not.
Gatchalian said.
He also added that the dissatisfaction with senior high school only shows the program’s failure to fulfill its promise to make its graduates ready for college and work.
He cited a 2020 discussion paper by the Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS), which revealed that only a little over 20 percent of senior high school graduates entered the labor force, while more than 70 percent continued with their education.
According to a 2020 discussion paper by the Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS) which Gatchalian cited, only over 20% of senior high school graduates went for work, while more than 70% continued with their education.
Furthermore, the study said that in terms of basic pay per day, senior high school graduates had no clear statistically significant advantage or disadvantage compared to Grade 10 and second-year college completers.
