DepEd to teachers, parents: ‘Be champions of reading!’

During the Department of Education’s (DepEd) recent National Reading Day, Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte encourages teachers and parents to be reading champions.
We urge our teachers, parents, and education partners to continue setting good examples as reading champions for our children,
she said.

She also emphasized the importance of reading that could help push the country’s learning recovery program.

Moreover, the DepEd recognizes the critical role of reading and literacy in its quest to deliver quality education.

In a statement, it called on the public, particularly teachers, parents, and education partners to be reading champions who will set a good example for the young generation.
The education chief is determined to impel reading among students which could help the country improve its literacy rate and bridge the learning gap, adding that it also plays a vital role in developing learners’ cognitive skills, particularly during their early stages,
DepEd said.
Under the stewardship of the Vice President and Secretary of Education, Sara Z. Duterte, remains steadfast in anchoring its reforms and initiatives to improve the country’s literacy rate and bridge the learning gap. DepEd is committed to make Bawat Bata Bumabasa a reality to provide more opportunities for the Filipino youth,
it added.

Under Republic Act 10556, every Nov. 27 has been declared as National Reading Day.
