In a public briefing on Wednesday, July 27, DepEd spokesperson Michael Poa said that President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has already seen the proposal and ordered the department to review nonbasic wage benefits including allowances and other compensations.
The President instructed for that [the proposal] to be looked into, na yung mga nonbasic wage benefits ay tignan pa natin kung ano pang pwedeng madagdag para sa omento ng take-home pay ng ating mga teachers,
he said adding that the department is also currently considering several allowances to be provided to teachers.

Poa explained that there are numerous factors that needed to be balanced and taken into account before the government can implement salary increases.
He noted that the private sector usually is the setter of the market benchmark for salaries nationwide.
If we increase the basic wage, if we make it too high, it will affect the private sector, either lilipat yung mga teachers ng private sector to the government, or baka hindi kayanin ng private sector tapatan, baka magsara,
Poa argued.

He also mentioned a proposal from the DepEd’s review of the K-12 curriculum as ordered by the President.
In order to improve the country’s teaching standards, the DepEd is planning to upskill teachers by relieving their administrative tasks and, thus, allow them to set their focus only on teaching,
he said.
Mag-focus muna sila sa teaching, tanggalin ang admin tasks. To complement that, we will perhaps have to hire non-teaching staff to handle those things,
he added.
