The Department of Education (DepEd) welcomed the presumptive Vice-President Sarah Duterte as Education chief after presidential race frontrunner Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. announced on Wednesday, May 11 that she will head the agency in the incoming administration.
OTHER STORIES:
DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones said the agency is ready to work with Duterte for the transition of leadership.
We will turn over the Basic Education Plan 2030, the first time that an outgoing administration will leave behind a medium-term plan. We are confident that DepEd will be in able hands and anticipate continuity,
she said.
However, a teachers group said that teachers reject the presumptive vice-president as chief of education.
Sara Duterte has no background in education and has never been an educator. We need an education chief who has a good grasp of the situation and a clear vision of how to salvage and raise the quality of education. She is not it,
Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT) Secretary General Raymond Basilio said.
We need an education chief who understands the responsibility of education to the promotion of truth, justice, human rights, and democracy...We need an education chief who appreciates the value of the teachers' work and their contribution to society. Sara Duterte is not it,
he added.
