DepEd allows teachers not to report on-site during election break

The Department of Education (DepEd) said on Friday, April 29, that teachers not serving on the polls from May 2 to 13 will be allowed not to report for on-site duty.

Earlier, DepEd announced the suspension of classes in public schools to help prepare for the activities related to upcoming elections and asked teachers to still report to schools even without any election-related tasks.

In a joint meeting held on Friday, Education Secretary Leonor Briones approved the recommendation of the Regional Directors and Division Superintendents raised through the Governance and Operations Strand to allow teachers not to report on-site during the election.

However, DepEd reminded that teachers not serving in the elections shall continue to attend to tasks including the accomplishment of school forms, preparation of instructional materials, preparation of learning plans, and evaluation of learner’s outputs/portfolios during the election break.

DepEd said about 647,812 DepEd personnel would serve as poll workers during the election.

Briones earlier said necessary assistance to the field offices and schools will be provided by the central office.
