Teachers’ group asks for COMELEC’s stand on onsite reporting in election break

The Teachers’ Dignity Coalition (TDC) has wrote a letter to Commissioner George Garcia of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) seeking clarification with regards to the orders requiring teachers who doesn’t have election-related activities to still physically report during the election break.

TDC National Chairperson Benjo Basas said that teachers were forced to comply with the orders to avoid risks and claimed that the announcement created confusion to both teachers and school heads.
The DepEd [Department of Education] Central Office has yet to release a clarification on this, but several schools division offices have ordered the onsite reporting of their teaching and non-teaching personnel, while some instructed their teacher not to report, a clear sign that there is indeed a confusion,
he said.
We were also informed that beginning May 2, schools that will be used as polling places will be secured by the Commission after the final testing and sealing of vote-counting machines (VCMs),
Basas added.

In a Facebook post last April 18, DepEd announced that classes in public schools are suspended from May 2 to 13 for national election-related activities and that teachers are still expected to report to their respective schools when there are no activities related to the elections.
