About 600k DepEd personnel to provide services on May 9 elections- DepEd

The Department of Education (DepEd) said on Thursday, April 21, that around 600k DepEd personnel will render services on May 9, 2022 elections.
We are looking at a figure of more or less 600,000 DepEd personnel who will work with the COMELEC (Commission on Elections) in this election,
DepEd Director Marcelo Bragado Jr. of the procurement management service said in a Senate hearing.

In the hearing, the Senate ways and means committee tackled bills seeking to exempt the honoraria and allowances given to those rendering services during the election period, including teachers from income tax.

Bragado added that the number of DepEd personnel that will participate in the 2022 polls increased compared to the elections in 2019 where a total of 531, 000 DepEd personnel rendered their services.
This 2022 elections, because of the increase in the number of registered voters, the Comelec increased the number of clustered precincts. So we have 106,000 clustered precincts,
he said.

Furthermore, he said that 319,317 teachers in total will serve as members of electoral boards while the rest of non-teaching DepEd personnel will serve as supervising officials, support and technical support staff as well as boards of canvassers.
