The Department of Education (DepEd) suspended face-to-face classes in Metro Manila starting Jan. 3 after the region was place under stricter Alert Level 3 by the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF).

On its post on Facebook on Jan. 2, the DepEd, in consultation with the Department of Health (DOH), verifies the suspension consistent with the recent memorandum of the IATF protocols and considering the notable increase of the COVID-19 cases in the Metro Manila.
DepEd confirms that the Pilot Face to Face classes for basic education are deferred until the alert level reverts to Level 2,
DepEd said.
Meanwhile, Education Secretary Leonor Briones said that although the result of the pilot implementation of face-to-face classes were very favorable, plans of its expansion will be put on hold in accordance with the decision of the IATF.
There will be no face to face classes particularly in Metro Manila starting Jan. 3 to 15, 2022. Those who completed pilot face-to-face classes will continue distance learning delivery modality,
Briones added.
Currently, there are 2,851,931 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country after DOH reported 4,600 additional cases on Jan. 2.
