The government has a three-part plan to reopen schools in the country after nearly two years of distance learning system caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The first phase was the pilot run of limited face-to-face classes in 120 schools which started on Nov. 15. The expansion phase is the second stage.
Nakahanda naman iyong listahan namin [ng schools], 'pag favorable ang risk assessment,
Education Secretary Leonor Briones said in a press briefing online.

However, Briones said that there are some local government units in Metro Manila that are still uncertain to let students participate in face-to-face classes, especially in areas with many schools.

On other hand, Briones added that Taguig is the only city in the capital which is open to the idea of resuming face-to-face classes.
Taguig's LGU already allowed four international schools to hold physical classes but this still needs the approval of the DepEd,
Briones said.

According to Education Assistant Secretary Malcolm Garma, the DepEd is currently preparing for the expansion phase which may start in January 2022 and would prioritize areas and regions that were excluded from the pilot phase.
