The Teachers’ Dignity Coalition (TDC) expressed concern over the Department of Education (DepEd)’s conduct of a one-week virtual training for teachers just before the start of the new school year as teachers were asked to participate in the training instead of using their remaining days to rest and recharge for another school year of remote learning.

The virtual in-service training (VINSET) began on Aug. 30, which TDC national vice chair Olivia de Guzman pointed out being the National Heroes’ Day, robbed the teachers of their holiday. It will end on Sept. 3 which is also the start of the new school year.

DepEd said the VINSET training which takes up the whole afternoon in the five days from Aug. 30 to Sept. 3 was administered to prepare teachers for the opening of classes for school year 2021-2022.
There are webinars in schools and in the school district and division levels. Has DepEd studied if these endless webinars are really helping teachers to be more productive? Does it really improve the quality of instruction of the teachers who undergo the webinars?
De Guzman asked.
She stressed that DepEd should rather make sure public school teachers will be provided with the tools to allow them to deliver remote learning such as laptop computers and internet connectivity loads, instead of conducting obligatory webinars.
