The education agency made the statement after several online cheating groups have emerged online and is now currently exhausting all possible means to put a stop to these activities.

Curriculum and Instruction Undersecretary Diosdado San Antonio also highlighted the DepEd’s stand on online cheating in a memorandum sent to all regional directors of DepEd.
The Department does not tolerate the perpetuation of cheating regardless of the learning delivery modality,
DepEd said.

It has already asked social media companies to ban online cheating groups and prevent groups that promote laziness, irresponsibility, and instant gratification from emerging online.
In this line, we appeal to parents, teachers, and learners to help us eradicate online cheating, which undermine the development of values and morality among the youth. It demeans the quality of education that the Department is committed to improve,
it said.

The online community “Online Kopyahan” on Facebook had 600,000 members and was publicly visible on the social networking app. It has been already archived where new members cannot be added, and current members cannot make new posts or comment on old ones.

However, a simple search on Facebook would reveal dozens of other groups that have thousands of members.

Education Sec. Leonor Briones said that DepEd is currently coordinating with authorities to investigate the prevalent online cheating.
