The Department of Education (DepEd) said on Friday, Sept. 17, that it is ready for the resumption of face-to-face classes in at least 120 schools.
We have spent a lot of time studying the implementation of pilot face-to-face classes amid the COVID-19 pandemic, and we are ready for it,
said Education Secretary Leonor Briones Briones during the Laging Handa briefing.

Briones said that they were able to identify 1,900 schools for the pilot opening, and then reduced the number of schools to more than 600.
Now we are ready to implement face-to-face classes in 100 public schools and 20 private schools. We are just waiting for the go signal from the President,
she added.
She also noted that younger learners should be prioritized in the resumption of face-to-face classes because it was essential to develop socialization skills, study habits, and good manners and right conduct as per advice of medical experts.
We can gradually shift in doing away with printed materials and further digitization of our learning materials, but health and safety remain the most important,
Briones added.
Meanwhile, President Rodrigo Duterte has yet to give his decision on the resumption of face-to-face classes as he did not want to gamble on the health of the children.
At the moment, only around 17 million Filipinos are fully vaccinated in the Philippines. In order to achieve herd immunity against COVID-19, the government is aiming to fully vaccinate 76.3 million individuals.
