DepEd further ordered that the conduct of Brigada Eskwela must comply with the required health standards of the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases guidelines such as wearing of face masks and face shields, following social distancing measures and proper hygiene.

The Brigada Eskwela also known as the National Schools Maintenance Week is a nationwide voluntary effort that was first established in 2003. It is a program of DepEd that aims to address resource gaps faced by the Department through strengthening partnerships with the local communities. The program mobilizes and brings together thousands of parents, alumni, civic groups, local businesses, non-government organizations, teachers, students, and individuals who volunteer their time and skills to do classroom repairs, maintenance work, and clean-up of public elementary and secondary schools.

The slogan of Brigada Eskwela 2021, “Bayanihan para sa Paaralan” while the regional theme is “Handang Paaralan para sa Handang Pasukan" will be adopted as the theme this year. It aims to promote collaboration for safe living and addressing social issues and concerns in schools, at home and in the community.
