In his speech, he noted the creation of basic education learning continuity plan that “enabled uninterrupted learning to students in the basic education sector while ensuring teachers' health, safety and well-being.”
Distance learning was used as an alternative to face-to-face classes.
However, several groups have criticized the Education department’s implementation of distance learning, giving the agency and the government a failing mark as many teachers has been exposed to the threat of COVID-19 while carrying out their tasks along with students and parents facing different challenges and burden during the set-up.
Stakeholders have warned of consequences in the long run from these challenges which includes the widening of the gap between those with and without access to education.
Earlier, the DepEd announced that President Duterte approved September 13, 2021 as the opening date for School Year 2021-2022. However, they added the President is still adamant in resuming face-to-face classes and said that blended learning will still continue.
