In an online survey conducted by the group from July 10 to 18, it found that most of education workers in public and private schools gave President Duterte the lowest rating of “poor” for his overall performance and fulfillment of his promises, as well as vital policies and programs.
The respondents were 1,080 teaching and nonteaching personnel and administrators in public and private schools and universities, vocational institutions and state colleges.
The group criticized the Duterte administration for its failure to deliver its promise to give public school teachers double payment for their salaries and for abandoning the education sector which faces persisting problems, noting that education access and quality continued to worsen under its leadership.
We’ve had enough of incompetent leadership and total abandonment, especially at a time of severe and mounting crises… President Duterte must be kicked out,
said ACT secretary general Raymond Basilio.
Basilio also added that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it highlighted problems in the education sector such as overworked and underpaid teachers and outdated school facilities.
The group likewise noted that thousands of private school teachers are still working under contractual basis and many lost their jobs last year due to private schools closing after not receiving any assistance from the government.
