For the 2021 fiscal year, the Department of Education (DepEd) allotted 674 teaching positions for the scholar-graduates of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).
These are our scholars who got the scholarship starting when they were third year under Republic Act No. 10612 or the ‘Fast-Tracked S&T Scholarship Act of 2013,’
Science Secretary Fortunato T. de la Peña said in a social media post.

The scholars will start their service in August or before the opening of classes and are required to teach the same number of years that they availed of the DOST scholarship through the Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI)
The DepEd has created 3,319 Special Science Teacher I positions to cater to the JLSS graduates, covering the school year 2016-2017 until SY 2020-2021 as of October, 2020.
As stated by the law, the DepEd shall guarantee the job placement of the scholars as SST I with a ‘provisional status’ as an appointment. This is under the condition that the scholars must pass the Licensure Examination for Teachers within the first five years if they choose to continue teaching in DepEd after their service obligation had been completed.
The DOST-SEI shall endorse the scholars based on the actual number of graduates at the end of the academic year.
The Republic Act No. 10612 was principally authored by the late Sen. Edgardo J. Angara which supports the implementation of the K-12 law by developing a pool of scholar-graduates who can competently teach science, technology, engineering and mathematics in the secondary education, particularly in senior high school, and ideally in their respective home regions.
