DepEd: “4.5M learners registered early for SY 2021-2022”

More than 4.5 million learners have registered early for school year (SY) 2020-2021as reported by the Department of Education (DepEd). The enrollment has achieved a 99 percent increase compared to the early registrants last year.

The DepEd was able to tally a total of 4,557,435 learners who availed the early registration in Kindergarten, Grade 1, 7, and 11 from April to May 31.

Education Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones said.

The agency conducted the early registration by using communication platforms like Facebook chats, text messaging, and drop-boxes in schools or barangays in order to ensure the safety of learners, parents and personnel amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Meanwhile, Grades 2-6, 8-10, and 12 do not need to participate in the early registration as they are already considered pre-registered.

The Department recorded 991,689 kindergarten, 1,554,556 Grade 1 (elementary school), 1,143,193 Grade 7 (junior high school), and 867,997 Grade 11 (senior high school) early registrants from April to May 31.

According to the Monitoring Report, Calabarzon recorded the highest number of registered learners in the region at 480,709, followed by Central Visayas (405,001) and Western Visayas (387,152).

Undersecretary for Planning, and Human Resource and Organizational Development Jesus Mateo noted that with the success in the enrollment due to the collaboration of schools and parents, they will be able to strategically prepare resources to further improve education delivery for S.Y. 2021-2022.
