In a press briefing on May 24, Monday, the Department of Education (DepEd) has announced that teachers and school heads would now receive a higher special hardship allowance (SHA).
OTHER STORIES:
According to Education Undersecretary for Finance Annalyn Sevilla, the DepEd and the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) have issued Joint Circular No. 1 Series of 2021, amending the National Budget Circular 514 Series of 2007, which grants higher SHA to eligible employees.
The SHA is given to teachers monthly in elementary and secondary schools and school heads or administrators exposed to extreme difficulties and hazards, such as difficulty in commuting to the place of work. With the joint circular, the amount of SHA increased in amount from 15 to 25 percent of the basic monthly salary of qualified employees.
Teachers in pure multigrade schools, mobile teachers, and non-formal education or Alternative Learning System coordinators are also eligible for receiving the SHA.
Education Secretary Leonor Briones together with DepEd also proposed to lessen the burden of teachers by reducing the requirements of claiming the allowance.
Now, in the new guidelines, qualified teachers will only have to submit their daily time record to avail for the SHA.
DepEd continues to honor our personnel, especially those who are in remote areas by addressing their concerns and providing their necessities according to their hard work,
Briones said.
Briones also added that the agency salute the passion of teachers who continuously deliver education to their learners wherever they are and committed to prioritize their protections against any potential harm.
