On Friday, May 28, Aral Pilipinas, a group of education practitioners, parents, students, and development workers who advocate for the continuity of education in times of crises, urged the government to start preparations for the resumption of limited face-to-face classes in areas under Modified General Community Quarantine (MGCQ).
We call on President Rodrigo Duterte to reconsider the postponed conduct of limited face-to-face classes and safely reopen schools in areas under the MGCQ classification,
Aral Pilipinas said.

Earlier in April, the Department of Education (DepEd) said that they considered Aug. 23 as one of the proposed dates of the opening of the school year 2021-2022 and added that President Rodrigo Duterte will have the final say on those dates proposed and options they prepared.
Our efforts are too focused on areas under stricter quarantine classification levels, and municipalities with zero to low COVID-19 cases seem to be getting the tail end of attention in our quest to put the education system back on track,
said Lead Convenor Regina Sibal of Aral Pilipinas.
As Aral Pilipinas recognized the necessity of resuming face-to-face classes, they collaborated with the government and civil society in drafting a framework that would ensure the health and safety of learners and teachers upon returning to schools.
They also expressed support and lauded Senator Sherwin Gatchalian, Chair of the Senate Committee on Basic Education, Arts and Culture on his unrelenting calls for the resumption of face-to-face classes in areas with zero to low COVID-19 cases and the inclusion of students and teenagers in program for COVID-19 vaccination.
