The Department of Education (DepEd) was urged by teachers to grant their long-overdue benefits through a “protesta de Mayo.”

The teachers wearing their gowns and having their titles “Reyna Abonada,” “Reyna Walang Pahinga,” and “Reyna Alay,” protested in front of DepEd’s main building in Pasig.
The secretary general of the Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT), Raymond Basilio said that they organized this protest to show their real situation because amid the COVID-19 pandemic, teachers and students are still burdened with school work without due assistance from the government.
he said.
The DepEd is also being urged by the teachers to give definite answers to their salary increase as they never had the opportunity to express their grievances with the agency.
said Basilio.
Safe reopening of schools through vaccination of faculty and other school personnel, and the gradual conduct of limited face-to-face classes is also being sought after by the teachers.
