The Department of Education (DepEd) said that they will be submitting several proposed dates for the start of the school year 2021-2022 in elementary and high schools levels to President Rodrigo Duterte.
The first option is the one that was already reported, the Aug. 23 (opening of classes), and we have other dates that the Secretary will present to the President,
DepEd Undersecretary Annalyn Sevilla said during the Laging Handa briefing.
OTHER STORIES:
Details were not revealed by Sevilla but assured that they are within the provisions of the law, referencing it to Republic Act 11480 that Pres. Duterte signed last year. The law allows the President with the recommendation of the DepEd secretary to schedule the start of the school year on a later date if there is a state of emergency or state of calamity.
Last year, the same law was used by Pres. Duterte when he decided to move the opening of the school year 2020-2021 to Oct. 5 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to Sevilla, the resumption of face-to-face classes will still be decided by the President and the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF).
