Solon criticizes DepEd’s plan to obtain P4.2M learning modules

The Department of Education (DepEd) is currently in a hot seat for its plan to buy P4.2 million worth of Self-Learning Modules (SLMs) when classes are almost over.

Deputy Speaker and SAGIP party-list Rep. Rodante Marcoleta criticized the agency over its decision and has called for the the resignation of Education Sec. Leonor Briones and other key officials of the DepEd who are responsible for the procurement of the modules.

OTHER STORIES:

For the 4th grading period, Marcoleta said the DepEd will be procuring P4.2 million worth of SLMs for Grade 4 to 10.
They have neither reformed nor learned their lessons. From the time that I exposed the lack of learning modules for the 3rd quarter in my privilege speech on March 15, 2021, DepEd Central Office did nothing,
Marcoleta said.

Marcoleta voiced his utter disbelief as he said that the procurement of the SLMs would be a waste of government money since there is no way the modules can be printed in time for the start of 4th grading in May 17 that will last until July 10.
They will have to first answer the basic question as to why they are procuring P4.2 million worth of modules very, very late in the day knowing only too well that they will not be able to deliver these to the schools in time for the 4th quarter.
Marcoleta said.

Marcoleta added that teachers, students and parents alike have already suffered a lot in the first and second quarters when the P10 billion fund for the production of SLMs suffered major setback and teachers were tasked and burdened to reproduce the modules with a very tight funding or none at all.
