DepEd to sanction individuals found responsible in producing erroneous learning materials

The officials of the Department of Education (DepEd) has come to a unanimous decision to impose appropriate sanctions and legal remedies provided for by the law against individuals who will be found responsible for erroneous or inappropriate learning materials distributed to students.

According to Education Secretary Leonor Briones, apologies for such acts will not be sufficient and will not be tolerated any further as certain individuals tend to continue in producing inappropriate contents in learning modules that damages the agency’s reputation.

Recently, DepEd was called out by netizens after photos of former Senator Manuel “Mar” Roxas II went viral in a learning material insulting the senator. Another module from Cebu has also been circulating online containing photos of President Duterte calling for his removal.
This time, apologies are not sufficient… Apologies are not enough for these errors… It’s exceeding the limits… and apologizing is no longer enough,
she emphasized.

Due to these incidents, DepEd was prompted to expand the range of their investigation to find out more details about the acts committed by certain individuals. Briones stressed that there will be due process and that the sanctions or penalties will depend on the severity of the neglect after the investigation.

She also warned that a penalty will be imposed on persons involved in the production of learning materials with inappropriate content.

Briones also added that DepEd continues to tighten its existing policies and that they are reviewing protocols that were repeatedly ignored.
We can no longer tolerate this and we would also like to remind our people to never use a living or non-living person as a negative example – especially in modules or learning materials,
Briones highlighted.
