5 teachers in Isabela died from COVID-19

The Department of Education (DepEd) confirmed, on Wednesday, that five of its teachers died from COVID-19 in Isabela province.
We offer our sincere condolences to the bereaved families and loved ones of our fellow DepEd workers. School Division Office (SDO) in Isabela is already in contact with the grieving families to provide urgent assistance and to facilitate the expeditious release of their benefits,
DepEd said in a statement.

In a preliminary investigation conducted by the agency, it said that the teachers were infected by COVID-19 through local community transmission outside of school and is not related to work.

An extensive contract tracing and quarantine procedures will be conducted by DepEd at the Isabela office. Distribution and retrieval of school modules and other physical activities has also been temporarily suspended by DepEd Isabela to prevent further spread of the virus.

The SDO also added that it ordered a strict implementation of alternative work arrangements and suspended all face-to-face activities in schools and offices in critical areas in the province.
