On Sunday, Feb. 28, Senator Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara said that should the Department of Education (DepEd) push through with the pilot implementation of face-to-face classes in areas with very few or zero cases of COVID-19, it should be implemented with extreme caution.

Angara said.
Angara expressed that although he supports the calls for the resumption of face-to-face classes, it is of the utmost importance that the government has to conduct pilot testing in areas where physical distancing and efficient health protocols can be strictly observed first.
Kung sakali, bago tayo mag umpisa tayo ng nationwide rollout ng face-to-face classes, pumili tayo ng isa o dalawang probinsya muna para sa pilot testing,
Angara said.
Angara added that these areas, at least, shouldn’t have many COVID-19 cases and must have strong health systems so that they would be able to handle possible outbreaks in case there is a “super spreader” event.

He also noted that health facilities like hospitals capable of handling lager numbers of cases should also be readied by local government units (LGUs) that would be part of the pilot testing. Angara admits that he also wants to see children back in school learning, as he said that it would ease a lot of stress and pressure off both the students and their parents who have been forced to cope with blended learning due to the pandemic.
However, before any plan to resume face-to-face classes is implemented, he stressed that it would be best to conduct a pilot implementation of face-to-face classes first and see how it would work.
