On Wednesday, March 24, the Department of Education (DepEd) upheld their decision to not allow mass face-to-face activities such as in-service trainings or other seminars for teachers.
The decision was made after 49 DepEd personnel in Zambales tested for COVID-19 after attending a meeting held in two beach resorts in the capital town of Iba last March 12. The infections surfaced when the employees were tested for the virus after the meeting and was contracted from a teacher who served as the guest speaker in both seminars.
The Department strictly adheres to the guidelines and required health protocols on work and office arrangements set by the IATF (Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases), the Department of Health, and the Civil Service Commission (CSC),
it said in a statement.

A fact-finding team had been tasked by DepEd to the case and is currently investigating the division-initiated activity while monitoring the situation involving its teaching and non-teaching personnel. DepEd added that there will be appropriate disciplinary actions that will be taken for the authorities who breached protocols upon the completion of the investigation.

it added.
The DepEd has encouraged its field offices to be extra careful and observe existing alternative work arrangements and protocols of CSC and DepEd such as the prohibition of large physical gatherings to prevent similar incidents to arise.
