DepEd launches investigation on Zambales face-to-face training

On Thursday, March 19, the Department of Education (DepEd) has organinzed an investigation on the conduct of face-to-face training of teachers in Zambales as 9 employees of its DepEd local office tested positive for SARS Cov2, the coronavirus that causes COVID-19.


The management committee meeting was held in two beach resorts in the capital town of Iba last March 12.

Dr. Noel Bueno, provincial director of Zambales confirmed that among the virus-infected DepEd employees were school division officials and a principal. The infections surfaced when the employees were tested for the virus after the meeting and was contracted from a teacher who served as the guest speaker in both seminars.

A fact-finding team has been tasked by DepEd to investigate the division-initiated activity while monitoring the situation involving its teaching and non-teaching personnel.

At the moment, more than 400 participants have been quarantined for safety precautions.

A memorandum prohibiting face-to-face seminars and trainings has been issued by DepEd and advised officials to temporarily use online platforms in conducting trainings and other seminars.
