China donates additional 400k Sinovac vaccine to PH

On Wednesday, March 24, 400,000 additional doses of CoronaVac, Sinovac’s COVID-19 vaccine, arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) aboard a Philippine Airlines flight.


The vaccines were additional donations from China to the Philippines along with the initial 600,000 doses that arrived in the country last February 28.

The Department of Health (DOH) and the National Task Force against COVID-19 said that the vaccine donations will be helpful in the country’s ongoing COVID-19 vaccination program as the recent infections of the virus has recently been increasing.

The arrival of the vaccines was welcomed by Health Secretary Francisco Duque III together with Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Huang Xilian. Senate committee on health chairperson Senator Bong Go and czar Vince Dizon were also present.

Huang said as he expressed optimism that the country will recover quickly from the pandemic through the help of the donated vaccines. 

An additional one million doses of CoronaVac purchased by the national government is expected to arrive on March 29.
