Briones forbids use of schools as vaccination sites

In an online press conference on Monday, March 22, Education Secretary Leonor Briones has forbidden the use of school buildings as vaccination sites unless it is deemed as a last resort.

She also will not allow teachers to take part in the launch of the government’s coronavirus vaccination program.

According to Briones, the use of schools as vaccination venues was not allowed and should be carefully assessed citing the current DepEd policy.
School buildings should only be used as a last resort if there is no other place,
she said.

Briones added that schools are reserved as evacuation sites for calamities and disasters only and there would be no more place for emergency evacuations if it will be used as vaccination sites.

Briones said that there should be an assessment and coordination with the Department of Health (DepEd) and local government units first if schools are deemed necessary as vaccination sites and there are no other places to be used.
