The errors found in self-learning modules (SLMs) being reported has been decreasing in the Second Quarter said Department of Education (DepEd) Undersecretary for Curriculum and Instruction Diosdado San Antonio.
There was an improvement compared to the first quarter… We can see that there are fewer reported errors now and we hope to eliminate all these in the future,
he added.
Since classes were formally opened for (SY) 2020-2021 on Oct. 5 last year, DepEd has been called out several times due to various mistakes found it its SLMs and other learning materials. Some includes errors in grammar, spelling/ punctuation mistakes, factual errors, printing errors and others.
Since then, DepEd has formally launched its Error Watch initiative to directly address errors in SLMs. It is a mechanism used to receive and collect reports of errors found in different learning materials to be validated and corrected by appropriate offices.
According to the Office of the Undersecretary for Administration (OUA), this was an initiative response to several reports of errors found in learning materials released by DepEd in the First Quarter.
In the Second Quarter grading period, San Antonio said that the Central Office (CO) assured the quality of 80% of the SLMs. He noted that there is a significant improvement when compared to First Quarter, where only 50% of the SLMs in the DepEd Central Office underwent quality assurance.
