DepEd guarantees teachers won’t participate in govt’s COVID-19 vaccine program

The Department of Education (DepEd) has assured that teachers won’t have an active and direct involvement in the actual regulation of the COVID-19 vaccine once it becomes available in the country.
Teachers are trained to teach, not to administer vaccines,
Education Secretary Leonor Briones issued in a statement on Friday.

She pointed out that teachers will only aid the government through an information drive on its vaccination program.
Teachers can help inform learners on the overview of the national government’s vaccine program,
she added citing on the discussion with the Department of Health (DOH).

Briones also emphasized that schools, which will be used as vaccination centers, will be a ‘case-to-case basis’  since not all are prepared with spaces and equipment for the vaccination program. She also reminded that schools should act only as distribution sites for learning packets and self-learning modules.

The approval of the request for certain schools which will be used as quarantine facilities will depend on the approval of the concerned local government units (LGUs). She ended her statement by saying that their priority is to protect the children, teachers, and staff although DepEd can also extend their assistance if they can.
