On Wednesday, the subject Sex Education is set to be included in the online learning module of the students this school year, said Commission on Population and Development (POPCOM) Executive Director Juan Antonio Perez III.
Since October, the Department of Education (DepEd) has been conducting sessions and discussions with their regional offices regarding the inclusion of sex education in the new learning modalities.
Ilocos, Central Visayas, and the Davao Region are the areas prioritized for the subject’s launch since they have the highest incidence of adolescent pregnancy.
Yun ang priority nila because pinaka-mataas ang adolescent pregnancy sa Region 11 and they are rolling out itong comprehensive sexual education through online learning,
he said.
POPCOM has reported that next year's population may increase to 111.1 million because of inaccessible reproductive health services due to the pandemic.
The commission also has noted a 21.04 increase which is equivalent to 102, 000 of unplanned pregnancy among adolescents aged 10 to 19 years old by 2021. This is due to the effect of community quarantines that limited services on family planning.
