DepEd alerts public over financial donation scams

On Saturday, Jan. 9, the Department of Education (DepEd) has warned the public about financial donation scams. The department has since then reminded that they have not authorized any individual group to conduct or solicit financial donations.

DepEd said that it has received multiple reports of malicious activities of some groups who are allegedly soliciting financial donations by using the names of the department, the staff, members of the Executive Committee and even Education Secretary Leonor Briones.
We would like to reiterate to the public that the Department has not authorized any individual or group to conduct such activity especially in the name of the Secretary,
DepEd said.
As a public institution, DepEd adheres to government rules and Commission of Audit directives on donations,
it added.

With the help of law enforcement authorities, DepEd is tracing the people behind the latest scams where Secretary Briones’ voice was imitated and also currently investigating the said illegal activities following the reports.

If such scams or suspicious transactions are encountered, the public is urged to report to DepEd’s Central Office. The DepEd Public Assistance and Action Center can be reached through landline (02) 8636-1663 and (02) 8633-1942 or email at mailto:depedactioncenter@deped.gov.ph.

The public is also advised to refer to the official social media accounts or channels of the department to avoid being victimized by these scams: DepEd Philippines (Facebook); http://twitter.com/DepEd_PH (Twitter); http://instagram.com/depedphilippines (Instagram); and http://www.deped.gov.ph/ (Website) for official announcements and other related information.
