Woman arrested on suspicion of trying to steal baby

On Monday, the authorities arrested a woman in Calasiao, Pangasinan who allegedly threatened to kidnap a sleeping baby if the mother won't hand over her cellphone. It was past 3am when the suspect entered the victim’s house in Barangay Bued.

Kasi ‘yung cellphone ko po nasa ilalim ng unan ko. Kung hindi daw po ‘yung cellphone, ‘yung baby po ‘yung kukunin niya, ‘yung baby daw ‘yung kukunin. Hindi po kasi siya makapag salita,

the victim’s 20-year-old mother said. 

Gawain na niya ano parang ibebenta siguro kasi ‘yung mga nakukuha niyang gamit binebenta niya po,

she added.

She tried to run until she was cornered by authorities. The suspect even pretended to faint in order to escape, according to authorities.

Nag effect po ng citizen’s arrest po ‘yung ating mga active na barangay tanod. Sila po mismo ‘yung nag aresto doon sa tao bago po nila pinunta dito sa ating himpilan,

Police Lieutenant Ramil Castro, Calasiao Police Station duty officer, said.

Media can't have a statement from the suspect as she has hearing disability and speech disorder. She is also a suspect in theft reports of other barangays.

The woman will be facing appropriate charges said authorities.
