DepEd gets high approval ratings in Pulse Asia survey

Education secretary Leonor Briones and the Department of Education (DepEd) have a high approval and awareness ratings in the latest Pulse Asia survey.


The department got the highest net approval rating in mid-September among Executive Branch line agencies, with a score of 73%.  As for Briones, according to the September 14 to 20 “Ulat ng Bayan” Survey, she also obtained the highest approval rating among Cabinet officials, at 60%.

On Thursday, Briones welcomed the survey results, saying
this only shows that more Filipinos appreciate the commitment and effort of the Department in offering learning opportunities and hope amidst these uncertain times.
We will use this trust of our people as motivation in pushing for more reforms in basic education,
she said.

The awareness score for Briones grew from 75% last year to 93%, gaining an increase in the National Capital Region (NCR), Luzon, and the Visayas regions. Her performance approval rose in the rural areas, from 62% to 78%.

The survey also revealed that majority of Filipinos approved the DepEd’s decision to push through with the class opening this academic year.

The respondents were asked in Filipino, “Do you agree or disagree with DepEd’s decision to open classes for the academic year 2020-2021 under distance learning?”

About 60% said they agree with the decision, 25% disagreed, and 15% were undecided. The survey also showed that more residents from rural areas agreed to open classes with 65% than did residents in urban areas with 54%.

Briones thanked the teachers, students, parents, and partners for their support in DepEd’s efforts to continue education in the country amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
