DepEd estimates P16.8M needed to replace learning materials damaged by typhoon Ulysses

The Department of Education (DepEd) said that replacing about 400,000 learning materials that were damaged because of typhoon Ulysses would cost about P16.8 million.

As of November 20, according to DepEd,  118,995 of 386,292 damaged learning materials were recovered in Bicol region, which experienced the destructive winds and intense rainfall of the typhoon. Also, the department had only been provided P5.7 million for non-infrastructure projects in the provinces of Cagayan, Isabela, Aurora and Rizal, Labo town in Camarines Norte, and Marikina City.

Local DepEd offices have also donated P1.4 million in cash to other regional and division units affected by Typhoon Ulysses.

The DepEd said its Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Service team would “continue to monitor [the] impact of flooding and landslide due to Typhoon Ulysses.”
