DepEd clarifies report on drowning of 4 youths in Laguna

On Monday, a report about four youths drowned in Biñan, Laguna circulated the social media, saying one of them is about to deliver a self-learning module.

Following the incident, on Thursday, the Department of Education (DepEd) clarified that a learner along with three other out-of-school youth did not drown in an attempt to submit self-learning modules.
According to the police report, they (victims) went out to deliver clothes to the fisherman father of two of the victims. This was confirmed by the fisherman father himself,
DepEd said in a statement.

This contradicted the claim made by the mother of one of the victims during an interview with a news network.
We are saddened to learn about their sudden passing, and we are sending our deepest condolences to the grieving families and friends of the victims as we pray for their eternal repose,
the DepEd said.
DepEd has already reached out to the concerned media outlet to rectify or delete the article. We also appeal to everyone that we should thoroughly check the information we are reporting to the public,
it added.
The mother claimed that she made a mistake in saying that the child was going to submit the modules,
said DepEd division superintendent Edna Faura-Agustin.

The DepEd is also encouraging its field offices to continue implementing academic ease measures in the distance learning set up to ensure the safety and well-being of the learners, as well as the teachers and personnel, in these trying times.
