School heads have the authority to decide on the conduct of makeup classes upon consultation with concerned stakeholders said Education Undersecretary Diosdado San Antonio.

Makeup classes are recommended for students to catch up on lessons that they missed due to class suspensions.

Super typhoon Rolly is considered the world's strongest storm for 2020, it brought catastrophic violent winds and intense to torrential rainfall over Catanduanes, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Albay, the northern portion of Sorsogon and the central and southern portions of Quezon.

It cut off a lot of power lines and internet access which is needed by the students to continue with their learning.

The Alliance of Concerned Teachers urged the government to address the concerns of the education sector in areas struck by the typhoon. The group said that despite the enormous damage brought by typhoon Rolly, they have not even heard of class and work cancellation in affected areas for the next days.

Also, the group urged the department to assess the typhoon's damage to the infrastructure, equipment and materials for distance learning.
