The Department of Education (DepEd) said that the department is currently monitoring the reported errors in the modules distributed to public elementary and high school students as they shift to distance/blended learning amid the pandemic.

DepEd Undersecretary for Curriculum and Instruction Diosdado San Antonio said 41 errors have been found so far in modules and confirmed through reports validated in DepEd’s Error Watch. These were reported from October 12 to 20.
Of the 41 reported errors, 27 are locally developed errors and could no longer be returned since these had already been used by students, 11 are from unknown sources, and 3 are from Central Office (CO)-quality assured self-learning modules.
San Antonio said that errors reported and verified by DepEd range from factual errors to grammar or syntax.
There were 20 factual errors, 7 computational errors, 2 format (font or illustration) errors, 4 printing errors (color), sorting of pages, and spelling or punctuation, 3 typographical errors, and 1 error on grammar or syntax.
DepEd Error Watch originally received 56 reports but 15 of these either appeared twice or indicated suggestions and queries. Also, the department might withdraw self-learning modules with errors depending on the gravity of errors.
Depending on the gravity (of the content), issuing errata might not be enough, we might withdraw these materials,
said Education Secretary Leonor Briones, during the Handang Isip, Handa Bukas virtual press briefing.
The DepEd is working to hire more proofreaders to prevent mistakes, and to centralize the production of modules beginning second quarter of the school year.
DepEd Undersecretary and chief of staff Atty. Nepomuceno Malaluan assured that they are tightening the review of learning materials. “We are committed to immediately rectify them,” he added.
Malaluan urged the public to continuously report to DepEd errors found in the modules.
Reports will be easier to identify if there are markers because tracing is more complicated since the sources of errors are decentralized.
