On Monday, the Department of Education (DepEd) reminded teachers to be mindful of the workload they give students, who are dealing with blended learning this year due to the pandemic. It reminded teachers to give a reasonable amount of schoolwork as some students have complained of overwhelming tasks.

Many students posted in the social media complaining about having heavy workloads from their classes. Many netizen students expressed that they are worn out due to the amount of requirements needed to pass. Some even say that it’s not about learning anymore, instead, it’s about passing the subjects.
Undersecretary for Curriculum and Instruction Diosdado San Antonio said in a press conference that he understands the students' concerns as he also encountered this issue in his own monitoring in Bicol Region.

he said.

San Antonio pointed out that the students should have enough time and a reasonable deadline to finish their activities.
He said that some activities in self-learning modules can be made optional for a certain period to avoid students suffering burnout. It is also up to the school heads and teachers to decide which activities will be made temporarily optional.

he said in a virtual press briefing.

Reiterating an existing policy, San Antonio also told teachers to avoid giving additional schoolwork to students during the weekends.
Last week, classes in public schools resumed through distance learning approach, which was implemented as in-person classes remain prohibited due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
