DepEd plans to obtain learning modules from private sector

On Wednesday the Department of Education (DepEd) verified that the self-learning modules for the third and fourth quarters of the current academic year will be acquired from the private sector.

It had been long planned to procure modules from the private sector according to DepEd Undersecretary for Curriculum and Instruction Diosdado San Antonio. They are also considering their developed self-learning modules. This is to further strengthen partner ships with the publishing industry.
The main reason is we wish to allow our supervisors and master teachers to focus on their main tasks once the school year opened,
he said.
We could only bother them with SLM development during the extended break,
he added.

He also clarified that there are no self-learning modules during the first and second quarters were procured from the private sectors because procurement protocols normally takes time.

Meanwhile, conformance reviewers from the regional offices have started doing their tasks as part of DepEd’s efforts to lessen the errors in the self-learning modules distributed to the students. It will also be asked to review the privately developed modules.
