34 errors confirmed in self-learning modules - DepEd

Social media had been the platform for students and parents to share their frustrations with the Department of Education’s (DepEd) 'new normal' of learning. Since in-person classes are not yet allowed due to Covid-19, DepEd offered blended/distance learning, and most learners preferred modular approach.

The first week of classes is already done and several errors on the distributed modules are scattered in the internet. According to DepEd, it monitored 34 errors in the self-learning modules that are being used by the learners. 

Initially, the department reported having monitored 35 errors.

Diosdado San Antonio, Education Undersecretary for Curriculum and Instruction, said in a press briefing on Monday.

The errors that were screenshot range from wrong options in multiple choices, color in printing, and use of words, and images that were overstretched said San Antonio.

he explained.

Sang-ayon sa aming report na nakuha, doon sa 35 instances na may mali, ang kinoconfirm namin na may mali na talagang dumaan sa aming team na nagreview ay isa,

he added.

[Based on the report we received, from the 35 instances of errors, we are looking at only one that was reviewed by our team.]

He added that this error is in a module that required a colored printing but was printed black and white.

Later on, DepEd clarified that there are 34 errors seen, of the 34 errors, 18 are from DepEd field units, 15 from unidentified sources, and 1 that was reviewed by the department’s central office.

According to the official, the modules designed by its field units are only being used in limited areas, and that the erroneous modules of which source has yet to be identified by DepEd could be those used in private schools.

In earlier reports, DepEd admitted that not all of the self-learning modules it issued for distance learning this school year underwent quality assurance screening. Also, the department vowed to be stricter in evaluating the materials in the future and even considering the possibility of hiring more proofreaders to address the problem.
