Veteran journalists enlisted by DepEd to aid teachers train for TV platform

On Saturday, the Department of Education (DepEd) announced that it enlisted the help of veteran broadcasters to train its teachers for its television platform, which will be one of the modes of learning when schools open on October 5.

It's the idea of the team . . . Of course, there were people who suggested it's going to be more effective if we would have personalities or celebrities, 

Education Undersecretary Diosdado San Antonio told ANC.

Education Secretary Leonor Briones said among the broadcast journalists invited were former TV5 news anchor and host Paolo Bediones as lead trainer; TV5 News Chief Luisita “Luchi” Cruz-Valdes, as senior trainer and advisor; Jessica Soho, Arnold Clavio, Kara David, Sandra Aguinaldo and Atom Araullo of GMA7; Korina Sanchez, Karen Davila, Kim Atienza, Abner Mercado and Jacque Manabat of ABS-CBN; and MJ Marfori, The Manila Times columnist and TV5 entertainment reporter.

DepEd said the Teacher-Broadcaster training program will equip and empower the selected selected group of teachers to be effective presenters on television, as well as allow them to understand the elements of video production by allowing them to discover the roles of becoming an associate producer, videographer, editor, graphic artist and production coordinator, Education Undersecretary Alain Pascua said in a statement on Friday.

The DepEd is also planning to build broadcast-ready studios nationwide, he added. Currently, 16 areas are already preparing for this, including Ilocos Norte, Lanao del Norte, Pangasinan, Zamboanga, Palawan and Davao.

said Secretary Leonor Briones.

Education Undersecretary Alain Pascua said DepEd was “very fortunate to have decades of combined broadcast and hosting experience of multi-awarded broadcast journalists, and television and radio personalities from the country’s biggest networks to guide our teacher-broadcasters for DepEd TV.”

Pascua said that the training of teacher-broadcasters started with sessions at the University of the Philippines in Diliman and Los Banos which have been arranged by the Curriculum and Instruction strand of Undersecretary Diosdado San Antonio, particularly thru Director Leila Arreola of the Bureau of Learning Delivery.

Pascua emphasized the importance of DepEd TV in helping reach more learners and reiterated the importance of the support of the national government and external partners in the success of the program.
