On Friday, the Department of Education (DepEd) notifies the public about cases of scams in relation to the upcoming opening of classes this school year.

In a statement, the department clarified that the Central Office and the Office of Education Secretary Leonor Briones are not soliciting for funds or financial support from any individual or organization. In addition to that, the department also warned the public against a scam by scrupulous individuals.
DepEd warned and reminded parents, students and all other concerned stakeholders against those joining contests that would provide DepEd with free devices or gadgets such as laptops and cellular phones.

DepEd reminded that learning continuity packages donated by various local government units (LGUs) and legitimate partners are provided to public schools to assist the implementation of distance learning this School Year (SY) 2020-2021.
The DepEd emphasized that the beneficiaries of these donations from the local governments are the teachers and students. As for monitoring of the donated gadgets and devices, it is coursed through DepEd regional offices (ROs), schools division offices (SDOs) and public schools.
DepEd urged the public to report the people responsible for these scams and other dubious activities or events related to the school opening by sending an email to action@deped.gov.ph.
Meanwhile, On Friday, DepEd said almost all the self-learning modules (SLMs) have been printed and are ready for distribution two weeks before the school opening.
Data released by DepEd indicated that around 98.83% of printed SLMs for the first quarter and set for distribution when classes begin on October 5. As of September 13, a total of 739,372,098 Self Learning Modules (SLMs) have been printed. Of this number, a total of 730,739,147 printed SLMs are ready for distribution.
Undersecretary for Curriculum and Instruction Diosdado San Antonio said the printing of modules was on schedule. The Education department aims to finish the distribution a week before classes begin.
