On Monday, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte said that some 33,000 children of overseas Filipino workers (OFW) who are in college would get a one-time grant of P30,000 cash educational assistance.
In a televised briefing from Malacañang, President Duterte said the grant is for college-level children of displaced, non-returning, repatriated, or deceased OFWs affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
The beneficiary must be enrolled or intends to enroll in a state or local university and college, or a private institution recognized by the Commission on Higher Education, the chief executive said.

The project will be organized by CHED's Unified Financial Assistance System for Tertiary Education, the Department of Labor and Employment, and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, he said.
In his most recent State of the Nation Address, President Duterte asked the CHED to provide scholarships to dependents of OFWs whose livelihood were affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
OFWs may get further details about the financial aid program from CHED, DOLE, and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).
Meanwhile, the labor department has reported that around 173,088 repatriated overseas Filipino workers have returned to their home provinces as of August 29. The returning OFWs were subjected to coronavirus testing before being transported back home.
The coronavirus pandemic has left thousands of Filipinos here and abroad jobless after many businesses closed or scaled down their operations. The government has promised to provide financial and livelihood assistance to the displaced workers.
