The Department of Education (DepEd) said that there are at least 7,342,121 parents and 620,794 teachers who have undergone training in distance learning to prepare and ready them for the formal opening of classes on October 5 amid the coronavirus pandemic.

In addition to that, the department also conducted training, orientation and other related activities to equip teachers and parents, as well as for them to have better understanding of how distance learning works.
DepEd Undersecretary Nepomuceno Malaluan said these training opportunities will continue throughout the school year. Some training for teachers is provided through the National Educators Academy of the Philippines (NEAP), DepEd-Information and Communications Technology Service (ICTS), and DepEd- Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Service (DRRMS). Others are organized and conducted by different DepEd regional offices and divisions.
As of September 13, Undersecretary Nepomuceno Malaluan said that out of the 620,794 teachers who had completed their training,
- 13, 39,134 were trained in Region IX-Zamboanga Peninsula
- 27,184 in Region X-Northern Mindanao
- 39,839 in Region XI-Davao Region
- 18,714 in Region XII-Soccsksargen
- 36,577 in Region XIII – CARAGA
- 10,566 in National Capital Region (NCR); and
- 13,234 in Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).
Meanwhile, the department trained 7,342,121 parents on distance learning to help them as they are the one supervising the learning of their children while staying at their home.
Out of 7,342,121 parents trained,
- 225,685 parents were trained in Region IX
- 670,168 in Region X
- 416,874 in Region X
- 154,412 in Region XII
- 291,443 in Region XIII
- 1,697,104 in NCR and
- 4,663 in CAR
And DepEd is still waiting for the updated data from the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
As of September 18, 2020, the total number of enrollees for the coming school year has reached 24,507,802 nationwide (88.24% of SY 2019-2020) for Kindergarten to Grade 12, including ALS and non-graded learners with disabilities. Data showed that 22,349,352 learners have enrolled in public schools (99.01% of SY 2019) and 2,105,688 registered in private schools (48.90% of SY 2019). The department is still anticipating an increase in enrollment figures as reports from the field continue to come in.
