DepEd confirms 88% of learning modules delivered to students

On Sunday, the Department of Education (DepEd) said that the distributed self-learning modules to public school students are around 88%. The class opening will formally open on October 5.

Education Undersecretary Revsee Escobedo said in an interview.

Escobedo shared that the DepEd's field units have been working with local government units and barangay officials in the distribution of the modules.

Ang pamamaraan nila ay inihahatid nila ito (modules) at binibigay sa mga magulang. Mayroon naman, kung hindi puwede ang magulang, naga-identify sila ng mga pick-up, delivery points sa barangay o kaya sitio,

he explained.

[What they do is they deliver the modules and give it to the parents. If the parents are not available, they identify a pick-up or delivery points in the barangay or sitio.]

Escobedo also said over 542,000 teachers have been trained for distance or blended learning. And around 8 million parents and guardians have also been trained on the new learning methods.

Education Undersecretary Diosdado San Antonio said that almost 13 million public school students or 59% of roughly 22 million enrollees this year will be using printed modules. 

Meanwhile, DepEd said on Monday, that students might have to share modules next year because there aren't enough funds to reproduce the learning material. Many teachers and parents reacted on the said "sharing" issue. Then DepEd clarified its statement during the House budget hearing last week and said that it was referring to the 3rd and 4th quarters when they were asked about the ratio of students and modules.

As of September 25, 2020, the total number of enrollees for SY 2020-2021 has reached 24,633,586 nationwide (88.70% of SY 2019-2020) for Kindergarten to Grade 12, including ALS and non-graded learners with disabilities.

The data showed that 22,444,560 learners have enrolled in public schools (99.43% of SY 2019) and 2,136,264 registered in private schools (49.62% of SY 2019). DepEd is still anticipating an increase in enrollment figures as reports from the field continue to come in. Schools will also accept late enrollees even beyond the enrollment period, as stated in DepEd Order No. 003, s. 2018.
