The proclamation highlights the value of teachers in Philippine society and national development. According to the proclamation, the occasion can be used to celebrate the unique role and service that teachers play in guiding families, strengthening communities and building the nation.
The Department of Education (DepEd) has scheduled various activities honoring teachers on National Teachers’ Month this September.
The department said that it ceaselessly recognizes the significant role of teachers in educating the Filipino children through the National Teachers’ Month (NTM) starting September 5, and its culmination on October 5 in celebration of the National Teachers’ Day (NTD) and World Teachers’ Day (WTD).
DepEd will hold a virtual kick off of the NTM to be hosted by DepEd Region 1 (Ilocos) on Monday. With its theme “Gurong Filipino para sa Batang Filipino,” this year’s NTM stresses the crucial role, commitment, and dedication of teachers in the delivery of education to young Filipinos especially amidst the pandemic.
The NTM celebration aims to recognize the role of teachers in “developing globally minded citizens, nurturing families, strengthening communities, and building the nation” just like the other year.
In DepEd's point of view, National Teachers' Month is a great venue to honor all of those who are in the teaching profession and to express gratitude for the positive influence of teachers on the students.
Based on the program of activities, the 2020 NTM virtual kick off will be spearheaded by Education Secretary Leonor Briones, DepEd Undersecretary for External Partnerships Service Tonisito Umali, Metrobank Foundation and National Teachers’ Month Coordinating Council (NTDCC) Co-chairperson Aniceto SobrepeƱa, and local DepEd officials.
There will also be a launching and unveiling of the National Teachers’ Month Stamp to be led by Philippine Postal Corp. Postmaster General and CEO Joel Otarra.
Various DepEd's partners during the month-long celebration will offer simple tokens of gratitude to the teachers as well as discounted rates to numerous services.
