On Wednesday, the Department of Education (DepEd) has announced that students will be able to enroll in public and private schools until November through the late enrollment process.
At the “Handang Isip, Handa Bukas” virtual press conference, DepEd Undersecretary Jesus Mateo said that students will be allowed to enroll until November at the school of their choice.
According to Education Secretary Leonor Briones, children can pursue enrollment even if the class starts on October 5 as long as they can enter the 80 percent of the required school days.
Based on the DepEd Order No. 3 series of 2018,
School may accept late enrollees provided that the learner will be able to meet eighty percent (80%) of the prescribed number of school days for each school year and the quarterly requirement to pass the grade level as governed by the latest existing applicable DepEd issuances.
If the learner cannot meet the required number of school days and the quarterly requirement, the school head may exercise his/her discretion to accept the enrollee and implement catch-up activities or interventions under acceptable circumstances,
said DepEd.
The department also set a deadline for submitting requirements until December 2020. However parents are encouraged to submit the documents as early as possible.
Meanwhile, as of September 9, the total number of enrollees for SY 2020-2021 has reached 24,305,551 nationwide (87.82% of SY 2019-2020) for Kindergarten to Grade 12, including ALS and non-graded learners with disabilities.
The data showed that 22,226,131 learners have enrolled in public schools (98.46% of SY 2019) and 2,029,202 registered in private schools (47.14% of SY 2019).
DepEd is still anticipating an increase in enrollment figures as reports from the field continue to come in.
Our only target then was 80% of enrollment ... we have exceeded our goal,
said Briones.
Also, the transfer of private school students to public schools has stopped, according to Briones.
